Wanna know how I stopped an endless cycle of dieting and exercising?

I detached from the outcome. I looked at myself in the mirror and wrote a list of all of the wonderful things that I am. “I am beautiful, smart, funny, sweet, kind, etc.”  When I did this, I realized that my weight doesn’t affect my value as person. I am still just as worthy as I was when I was thinner.

Then I asked myself, what is the difference if I lose weight or not? Am I not still all of the same things? Do I not deserve to let myself be happy because of how I look? By believing in who you are and what you are capable of, you will not focus as much on what you look like. Stop overdoing it with diet and exercise with the purpose of being skinny. Start eating healthy foods that you enjoy and moving your body because you love yourself no matter what. This way you will release yourself from the vicious cycle of dieting, which is only causing stress in your life.

This concept of detaching can be applied to any area of your life that you are struggling with. I have used this method of letting go to deal with the outcome of a recent writing opportunity. As long as you are doing your best, the results don’t matter. Remember life is about the journey, not the destination. Let yourself be happy now because you deserve it regardless if weight, finances, etc. are where you want them to be. This way you don’t miss out on what is happening in the present because you are so focused on the future. Life is happening now, not a year from now, or a week from now. NOW!

So step back, give yourself a break, and detach from the result. The results will come when you are treating yourself well and believing that you are fabulous because you are you, and not because of what you look like or how much money you earn.

When you catch yourself saying in your mind “Oh if I could just lose 5 more lbs. by July,” or “when will I have enough money,” ask yourself, what is the difference?
